Q&A
What motivated you to write a book about saving money?
I had learned when I was a child the importance of saving money, and learning how to control your own finances and your own financial future. I have seen far too many young people, and read too many articles about young adults and credit problems, that I desired to become an advocate and an example of how a young people can successfully save money—and save enough money to reach financial success.
Who can benefit from reading Saving Your Way to Success?
Anyone having trouble grasping their financial future and gaining control of their immediate finances can and will benefit from reading Saving Your Way to Success, but it is geared to the student and young adult, the ideal age to learn how to save, and begin accumulating wealth.
Why is it so important that a young adult, or anyone, read Saving Your Way to Success?
Far from a dry academic study, one of the main focal points of Saving Your Way to Success is that it is based on real-life experiences and life-smarts that allows the reader, especially the student and young adult, to relate to it. I include real life examples of how I was saving my way to success at the same age that I recommend other young people learn how to save. It is explained in laymen’s terms, written in easy to understand language, to allow the reader to readily see and understand how easy it is to save his or her way to success.
What sets Saving Your Way to Success apart from the other books out there?
Saving Your Way to Success is not a get-rich, stock market book, or a “money saving tips” book. Books on personal finance devote more space telling the reader how to spend—buying on credit, borrowing, renting, buying or building a home, insurance, and especially how to save by spending—rather than teaching the fundamentals and benefits of learning how to save to actually save money to reach financial success. Learning how to save your way to success is the cornerstone to any solid financial plan and future. I devote Saving Your Way to Success entirely to teaching, especially to the student and young adult, that a properly applied savings program will help anyone achieve financial independence.
What do you recommend as the first step to saving money?
Create an account book. Keep track of every dollar and cent coming in and going out. Write down every income and every expense. You will never really be able to save money until you actually know how much is go through your pockets every month.
The advice contained in Saving Your Way to Success is well founded and (Justin) speaks from experience.
It is sound advice that we can all benefit by.
